Shopping for seasonal produce this summer

5/26/2020

Shopping for seasonal produce
The U.S. Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion recommends that you consume at least two servings of fruit and three servings of vegetables each day. Although this varies by age, gender, and level of physical activity, it is a good recommendation to live by to build a healthy dietary base.

A great way to add variety to your diet, is to look into seasonal produce. Since summer is approaching, there will be numerous amount of different fruits and vegetables available.

Seasonal fruits and vegetables is a great way to expand your diet and can even help you save money since the abundance of the seasonal produce typically makes it less expensive.

Adding fruits and vegetables to your diet has many benefits.  Research shows, many people are more likely to consume fruits and vegetables if there are realistic and fun approaches applied.

To help consumers with this aspect, PBH launched the Have A Plant movement. This movement is meant to encourage healthy and fun eating by adding plant-based foods to their diet. Their website offers a multitude of ways to add fruits and vegetables to your diet in a way you enjoy. Additionally, they also offers recipes, grocery shopping tips, and nutrition and storage information.

The Have A Plant website is also a great resource for people to look into what fruits and vegetables are in season throughout the year: winter, spring, summer, and fall produce options.
